How to sell your collection on the Gold Coast
Whether it's a childhood LEGO collection resurfacing during a move, a Funko Pop shelf that's outgrown your space, or a trading card binder you're ready to part with, selling a collection can feel daunting if you don't know where to start. This guide walks through how selling works at Frenly Bricks in Carrara, what we're generally looking for, and what to expect whether you're dropping in or sending your collection in the mail.
What we buy
Frenly Bricks buys selected LEGO, Funko Pop and trading cards, including sports cards — the same categories we stock in our LEGO, Funko Pop! and trading card collections online and in store. Here's a general guide to what we're after in each category.
LEGO
We're after sealed sets and minifigures — loose bricks and already-built sets aren't something we're able to take. Retired Star Wars, Ideas, Modulars and Creator Expert sets are the ones we're most actively chasing, but we'll look at anything sealed.
Funko Pop
Boxed or loose, a single Pop or a couple of hundred — we'll take a look either way. Chases, vaulted figures, convention exclusives and harder-to-find grails are always worth showing us first. Shelf wear on the box is fine; we'd rather see it in person than have you write it off before asking.
Trading cards and sports cards
We buy Pokémon, One Piece, Magic: The Gathering, Yu-Gi-Oh, Dragon Ball and the full range of sports cards. We're after hits, chase cards, sealed product and graded slabs — we don't take bulk, commons or energy cards. Vintage and Japanese cards are always of interest, and cards don't need to be graded first; raw is completely fine.
How selling in-store works
Selling in person at our Carrara store is the fastest way to get an answer and walk out paid the same day. It generally works in four steps:
- Send a photo first (optional). Use the form on our Sell to Us page, message us directly, or just bring your collection in — a rough photo and a ballpark count is enough for us to work from if you'd rather check before making the trip.
- We come back with a number. Pricing is based on what things are genuinely selling for at the time, broken down so you can see which parts of your collection carry the value.
- Drop it in. Any day of the week at our Carrara store. If you've got a large collection, message us first so we can set aside proper time to go through it with you rather than rushing between customers.
- Get paid on the spot. Cash or bank transfer, your choice — paid at the counter, with nothing held back and nothing on consignment.
Not on the Gold Coast? Mail-in selling
In-store is still the simplest way to sell — you get an answer on the spot and walk out paid the same day. But if you're interstate or too far away to make the trip, we accept mail-in sales on these terms:
- Get a quote first. Please don't post anything before we've agreed on a number together — we can't take responsibility for parcels that turn up unannounced.
- You cover postage, both ways. Send your collection tracked and insured, at your own cost. If we can't agree on a final number and the collection goes back to you, return postage is also on you.
- Send us the tracking number. As soon as it's lodged, message us the tracking number and carrier so we know it's coming.
- We check everything on arrival. Condition and contents are verified against what you described before anything is finalised.
- Payment goes out once it's confirmed. By bank transfer, the same day we finish checking. If what arrives doesn't quite match the description, we'll come back to you with a revised number — you can accept it, or we'll post the collection back at your cost. No surprises either way.
Once a parcel is with Australia Post or a courier, it's out of our hands, so we're not liable for loss, damage or delays in either direction — which is exactly why we ask you to insure it properly.
Packing your collection for mail-in sale
Pack it like it's going to get thrown around in transit, because it might be. A few category-specific tips:
LEGO
Leave sealed boxes sealed — don't cut or peel the shrink wrap to check anything. Wrap each set individually, since corners and edges are where value is lost in transit. Minifigures should go in a small rigid container or be bagged individually, never loose in the carton, with every gap filled so nothing can shift.
Funko Pop
Pop protectors are ideal if you have them, though not required. Wrap each box individually, avoid taping directly onto the Pop box (it lifts the print when removed), and pack tightly with padding so boxes can't rub against each other in transit. Use a rigid outer carton, not a soft satchel.
Cards
Sleeve anything valuable and place it in a top loader, then tape or bag the top loaders shut so cards can't slide out. Send hits only — padding a parcel out with commons, energy or bulk just adds postage cost without adding value we can price. Sealed product should be wrapped individually and boxed with padding.
Graded slabs
Wrap every slab individually in bubble wrap or a slab sleeve — never let two slabs touch, as they can scratch or crack each other in transit. Sandwich between rigid card or use a purpose-made slab mailer, and pack so nothing can move. Tracked and insured shipping is a must for graded cards, no exceptions.
Common questions about selling to us
Why don't you pay before you've received the item?
Condition is the whole ballgame, and we can't accurately assess it from a photo — a card that looks near mint on a phone camera can have a soft corner you'd only catch in hand. Checking first protects both sides of the sale.
What if you value it lower once it arrives?
We'll come back to you with a revised number and the reason for it, usually with photos. You can accept the new offer, or we'll post the collection back to you at your cost. We won't pressure you into accepting.
How do you land on a price?
We work off recent sold prices rather than asking prices — graded cards off current market for that certification and grade, LEGO off retirement status and what sealed copies are actually moving for. You'll get the reasoning behind a number, not just a figure.
Do I need to book an appointment?
Not for a handful of items — just come in. If your collection fills the boot of a car, send us a message first so someone's free to sit down and go through it properly.
Can I keep some pieces and only sell the rest?
Of course. Plenty of people sell everything in one go, and plenty keep their favourites. We'll quote either way and won't push you to include anything you're not ready to part with.
Ready to sell?
If you've got LEGO, Funko, trading cards or sports cards you're ready to move on, start with our Sell to Us page to send through photos and get a free, no-obligation quote. Prefer to just show up? Frenly Bricks is at the corner of Manchester Road and Gooding Drive in Carrara, Gold Coast, open seven days a week — bring your collection in and we'll go through it with you at the counter. And if you're curious how we sell collections on, keep an eye on our eBay Live auctions, running most weekends.
If you have sealed retired LEGO specifically, our guide to retired LEGO sets collectors ask about most covers what to check before you bring a set in.
